Thank you for your interest in serving on the Better Basics Junior Board. Better Basics is a 501(c)(3) with the mission to empower children across Alabama by equipping them with foundational academic skills and educational opportunities for lifelong success.
Founded in 1993, Better Basics’ programs are designed to support academic achievement and lifelong learning. These programs fall into three key areas: intervention, enrichment, and book distribution. This year, Better Basics will provide direct reading and mathematics instruction to more than 2,500 students. Additionally, we will distribute over 202,000 high-interest, age-appropriate books—filling the homes of more than 35,000 children.
The Better Basics Junior Board is a group of engaged young professionals who champion our mission by raising awareness, cultivating donors and sponsors, and volunteering to support programs and events. As a Junior Board member, you will:
Share Better Basics’ mission to empower children across Alabama by equipping them with foundational academic skills and educational opportunities for lifelong success.
Serve as an advocate for creating opportunities through education in the workplace and the community.
Serve as a volunteer reader at Better Basics Reads and volunteer with other Better Basics-hosted programs or events at least once per year.
Cultivate donors and sponsors for Better Basics programs and events.
Develop, plan, promote, and staff an annual fundraiser.
Attend monthly Better Basics Junior Board meetings – virtual and in-person.
Pay Junior Board annual donation of $75 for dues.
Contribute to Junior Board activities, such as Christmas family sponsorship, etc.
