Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
Better Basics is the Jefferson and Walker Counties, Alabama local affiliate for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. We register children from birth to five years of age (primarily in lower-income neighborhoods) for this free book program- facilitating and funding the monthly distribution of high-interest, age-appropriate books to each registered child’s home. Unique to Better Basics’ Dolly Parton Imagination franchise, we also equip groups of parents and childcare workers with professional development.
Our goals are to get books into young children’s hands and equip their caregivers to help them enjoy and engage in reading events. In the 2023-24 year,12,480 Jefferson and Walker County preschool children were enrolled and received approximately 124,800 books.
